7 Scriptures and Prayer for Friendships and Relationships

Prayer for Friendships and Relationships

Heavenly Father, thank you for your love. I am so thankful that I have you to guide me in my life. I praise you for the people that cross my path each day, and pray that I would see them with your eyes. Forgive me for times when I take people for granted. Help me to love others in the same way that you love me, just as you command. If there is any bitterness in my heart towards someone in my life, in your grace, please reveal it to me Lord and show me what I can do to take the right steps to mend the broken pieces in my relationships. I acknowledge my need for you in my life. Sometimes life can feel lonely Lord, but I know that it doesn’t have to be that way. Show me what I can do to be more intentional. I pray that you would give me discernment and guidance in the friendships and relationships that I have so that I can know which ones are life giving and which are tempting me towards a path that doesn’t glorify you. I pray for wisdom in the words I speak towards others, so that I wouldn’t let any unwholesome talk leave my mouth, and that my words would bring healing to those around me. I pray that as a friend I would build others up according to their needs. Show me who needs a friend in this season Lord, and how I can encourage them and bring light into their life, in the same way I ask that you also bring strong, loving friendships into my life. Lord, let our hearts be kind and compassionate towards one another, forgiving each other, just as we have also been forgiven. Let our love for one another be radical and unconditional. It is easier to love those who love us Lord, but I pray for anyone who might be against me, and ask that you would show me how to love them and how I can take action so that the love will shine brightly over darkness, and stand tall like a lamp, not hidden away. In Jesus name, Amen.

7 SCRIPTURES FOR FRIENDSHIPS AND RELATIONSHIPS

Ephesians 4 29-31

Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.

Matthew 5:43-48

You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbour and hate your enemy.' But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? And if you greet only your brothers, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? Be perfect, therefore as your heavenly Father is perfect.

Romans 12:9

Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another above yourselves. Never be lacking zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. Share with God’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality.

Ephesians 5:19-21

Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.

Proverbs 15:1

A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.

Proverbs 15:4

The tongue that brings healing is a tree of life, but a deceitful tongue crushes the spirit.

Proverbs 27:9

Perfume and incense bring joy to the heart, and the pleasantness of one’s friend springs from his earnest counsel.
